Animal welfare that’s a cut above the rest

Northern Ireland is a relatively small geographical area and this offers the advantage that livestock have only a relatively short distance to travel from the farm to point of slaughter. Northern Ireland had its own unique Quality Assurance Scheme which is managed by the Livestock and Meat Commission (LMC). This scheme provides everyone within the supply chain with the assurance that:

  • the primary producer is producing animals in a manner that is in harmony with the environment,
  • animals are reared in a welfare friendly manner, and
  • all operation/production methods adopted are aimed at producing an end product which is wholesale and safe
